For many years, almost no ERP software companies attempted to create billing systems. Billing was more of an art tailored to individual companies. Oracle released several billing systems starting with their applications release 10.7. Project Billing is the first of those systems.
Oracle Project Billing provides an efficient way to manage revenue accurals, billing invoices, and a way to "true-up" these entries during a traditional billing cycle.
Project Billing provides extensive support for billing on material and labor charges with various methods to mark-up and provide margin for goods and services.
Oracle Project Billing
Oracle Project Billing allows you to simplify client invoicing, improve cash flow, and measure the profitability of contract projects with support for planning, execution, and analysis. It utilizes information from the work breakdown structure and provides flexible revenue accrual and invoice generation features, enabling you to track unbilled receivables and bill customers for individual projects, as well as internal charge-backs.
Oracle Portal Billing Software
Oracle acquired Portal Software, a leader in billing and revenue management for very large Telecommunications providers and Internet Service Providers (ISPs). Portal provides extensive features for measuring customer usage from over 2000 different telecommunications devices and to quickly apply billing models to this usage.
Oracle has been working on making Portal software more generic so it can be applied easily to industries other than Telecommunications.
Billing Fees for Services
Project Billing supports billing fees for services, however, you must build your own routines to compute these fees. You do this by defining custom "billing events". Out of the box, the application only supports computation of billing for time, labor, goods, and services.
